The Role of the Family in ABA

At B.E.S.T., we recognize parents and caregivers as the most crucial components of a child’s long-term success. Clinical therapy lays the foundation, but the ultimate goal of all behavioral intervention is to transfer progress from a structured clinical setting into functional, real-life environments.

To achieve this, our organization offers a robust suite of training programs designed to demystify Applied Behavior Analysis. We provide parents with actionable, everyday strategies.
We view parents not as passive observers, but as active co-therapists in their child's journey.

Comprehensive Training Workshops

Families are provided with multiple avenues for education and support.
This ensures that behavioral principles are easily integrated into daily family routines.

Monthly Topic-Specific Workshops
Hosted at the Modesto center, these 1 to 2 hour evening workshops are led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and are completely free for families receiving comprehensive services.
To remove barriers to attendance, complimentary childcare is provided by trained behavioral therapists. Topics are rooted in current research and presented in a highly accessible format. Previous topics include:
Increasing cooperation and expanding food selection
Effective toilet training strategies
Understanding the complexities of Autism
Coping with holiday stress and routine disruptions
Incorporating structured learning into natural play
Managing routines, schedules, and maladaptive behaviors

Comprehensive 8-Hour Training Course

For families seeking a deeper understanding, this extensive course demonstrates fundamental behavior analytic strategies for home and community use. The curriculum utilizes multimedia videos, clinical vignettes, and Active Student Responding (ASR) activities. This allows parents to collaboratively solve problems and practice their understanding in real-time.

The Final Phase of Skill Acquisition

True learning occurs when a child can perform a skill not just for their therapist, but for anyone, anywhere. This is known clinically as generalization. Parents actively participate in what B.E.S.T. refers to as Phase 3 of treatment.

During this critical phase, target skills previously mastered in the clinic are systematically generalized to different environments and presented by different people.
Caregivers receive weekly briefings from the clinical team and play an active, hands-on role in assisting the transfer of these skills.
By participating in Phase 3, parents ensure that the behavioral momentum generated in therapy is maintained seamlessly over time. This drastically reduces the likelihood of skill regression.
