The Practice Classroom Environment

Transitioning into a traditional community educational setting can be a daunting milestone for children with developmental disabilities. To ensure this transition is successful and seamless, B.E.S.T. operates an innovative, year-round practice preschool.

Structured and run identically to a private preschool program, this environment allows children to participate as a vital component of their comprehensive treatment.
Within this safe and structured setting, children master the hidden curriculum of the classroom. They learn to understand daily routines, navigate complex transitions, follow group rules, and participate in general educational activities.

The Power of
Peer Modeling

Social skills are most effectively learned in a natural, social context. A defining feature of the B.E.S.T. Mock Preschool is its profound commitment to inclusivity.

Target behavior examples frequently addressed within this model include
  • Active listening and following group instructions
  • Waiting patiently and understanding delayed gratification
  • Sharing materials and engaging in structured turn-taking with adult supervision
  • Developing self-control and emotional regulation within a dynamic group setting
  • Initiating and sustaining beginning conversations with peers

Summer Kindergarten and First Grade Prep

The learning momentum does not pause during the summer months. For children preparing to enter Kindergarten or the 1st grade, B.E.S.T. offers a specialized summer mock class.

Bright, well-organized preschool classroom with small tables and chairs, colorful storage bins, educational toys, and owl-themed decorations on the windows, including a large brown owl with the word 'HOORAY' and smaller owl cutouts hanging above.
This intensive program focuses explicitly on the academic and behavioral prerequisites required
for those specific grade levels.
Running in a similar fashion to the preschool model, the summer program maintains a rigorous emphasis on practicing, expanding, and generalizing crucial social and classroom survival skills. This ensures every child steps into their new school year with confidence.
